“Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook” ?

Gary Vee has talked about how we should use not only our social media but all different platforms given to create value first as it is very important. Instead of just selling and delivering the “Right Hook”, we have to “Jab’ first.

Value giving never fails 

In a video campaign or advertisement, instead of talking about your product and service or your business, why not think about how to provide useful information and tips relating to your line of work? That would be providing Value Upfront! Many businesses deliver the “Right Hook” straight off the bat, meaning selling is the first thing they do, they go right into the life story, business, product and how accomplished they are. However this is a sure way of putting people off, as they don’t know who you are and there is no connection there. Because of that, people would try their best to avoid you and there would be a failed engagement, leading to one less customer. 

Boxing analogy

In boxing, where all these terms are taken from, it is known that boxers do not deliver the “Right Hook” immediately, they “Jab” first -these would be light punches- and when the right opportunity comes, they strike. It is the same in doing business, you have to think about how to provide value upfront -those would be our light punches. That is providing value upfront. 

Is it about you, or them? 

Here’s another example, imagine that you are doing a door-to-door sale, instead of walking up and again talk about yourself. How about offering them a free trial or a one-hour consultation of whatever it is you are trying to sell. Let them have a taste of your service, and then only get down to business. Once they’ve experienced what you sell, they will have more interest and what to know more. Here they will be given the value first. In fact, if you think about Personal Branding, “Jabbing” is exactly what you need to do. 

Make them remember you

When you appear on people’s newsfeed, you want to make sure that you are sharing useful information that can actually help them. And there again, you will be providing them with value. Then when it comes a day where they need a service or product that you provide. They will remember you as you are someone who they recall in a positive way. 

Don’t be desperate to sell, start sharing

So there you have it, Gary Vee’s “Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook”. It is especially crucial to have this one in the books as you put yourself out there. You don’t want potential customers to happen across you as you’re desperately selling your product. This will immediately give them a bad impression of you and your brand. So, write up a script, and share your knowledge, provide your audience with something that can make their lives easier. When you’ve built that bridge of trust between yourself and them, go ahead and lay out what you sell.
